In 1994 a group of business people came together to address the educational disparity of low-income, urban young people by increasing quality education opportunities, thus making them competitive for admission to college and universities.    The group provided Sacred Heart/St. Peter Elementary School with program funding and high school scholarships for 25 graduating students.  During this time, the seed to open a tuition-free school was planted.  The remarkable speed from which this vision ripened to reality is a testament to the deep values and commitment of this group.  The journey began with the initial idea of St. Martin de Porres Academy in 2003 to the first day of school in September of 2005.
