St. Martin de Porres Academy
A Nativity School

"Educating One Precious Child at a Time"

Opening September 2005

Our Mission

St. Martin de Porres Academy is a Nativity Network middle school dedicated to providing a faith-based, tuition-subsidized education for girls and boys from low-income families in the greater New Haven area. We are a Catholic school upholding the belief in the dignity and worth of every person. We serve children of all faiths, races and cultures. Our goal is to prepare each student for a quality high school and college education.

Admission & Tuition Policies

The Connecticut Urban Education fund will find or provide scholarships so that, for almost all families, the only expenses are an activity fee of $20 per month and school uniforms. St. Martin's will admit 15 boys and 15 girls into our 5th grade.

A Unique Opportunity

Academics

Our students receive instruction in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Religion. Our fifth grade curriculum will challenge students to perform to the high standards expected of students who are college-bound. A foreign language is introduced in sixth grade and algebra in the eighth grade.

Small Class Sizes

Students learn in groups of no more than 15. This means that each student receives individual attention, care and instruction by each member of our staff.

Extended School Day

Our school features an 11-hour day. The program includes academic tutoring, extra-curricular, enrichment activities & athletics from 3:00-6:30pm, including a light meal.

Summer Programs

All students participate in a summer program including field trips, camp experiences, academic enrichment, and community building activities.

Spiritual Development

Through daily prayer, worship services and spiritual retreats we instill in each student a belief in themselves and a closer relationship with God.

Justice & Peace

Through nonviolence programs, social awareness education and outreach activities we nurture students to be peacemakers and agents for change in our school, their families, and their communities.
